mineraXIn development

Preliminary surface blasting, from blast design to fragmentation and vibration.

mineraX runs blast-design, fragmentation and vibration screening methods in one browser workspace, with explicit units, stated limits, and any value without a published source labelled or withdrawn. While mineraX is in development and under expert review, new users join a waitlist.

WHO IT IS FOR

Built for engineers who plan and check surface blasts.

  • Drill-and-blast engineers

Blast geometry, pattern, charge loading and delay timing for surface benches.

  • Quarry and open-pit teams

Fragmentation curves, rock factor and production economics.

  • Engineers screening vibration

Ground vibration and dominant frequency at nearby receptors, with airblast as a screening estimate.

MODULES

What mineraX calculates.

23 calculation modules plus a workflow engine. Grouped by the engineering question they answer. Each module takes explicit units. Where the October 2026 literature audit found no published source for a value, the app labels it “Engineering judgement: no source in the literature” or withdraws it; see the validation register.

Fragmentation

2 modules

Predicted fragment size and size distribution from the blast design.

mineraX Rosin-Rammler fragmentation: characteristic size and shape factor inputs, x20, x50 and x80 passing sizes in centimetres, and the passing curve with the three sizes marked, from synthetic inputs
Fragment size distributionProduct capture · 14 Oct 2026 · mineraX 1.0.0 · synthetic data
  • Kuz-RamMean fragment size, uniformity index and x20 and x80 sizes.
  • Rosin-RammlerThe fragment size distribution and its x20, x50 and x80 passing sizes.

Blast design and timing

6 modules

Pattern, charge and timing for a surface bench.

mineraX Borehole Loading: hole, bench and explosive inputs beside the loading summary, detonation and borehole pressure, a borehole profile of stemming, explosive column and subdrilling, and a powder-factor design-check warning, from synthetic inputs
Borehole loadingProduct capture · 14 Oct 2026 · mineraX 1.0.0 · synthetic data
  • Langefors-KihlströmMaximum and practical burden, spacing, bottom and column charge for a bench.
  • Blast geometryPowder factor, stemming, subdrilling and hole depth.
  • Blast patternDrill-hole pattern layout in 2D and 3D.
  • Borehole loadingThe charge column, stemming and subdrilling for a chosen explosive.
  • Delay timingHole-to-hole and row-to-row delays for the pattern.
  • FlyrockA screening estimate of flyrock throw and burden risk. The exclusion-zone factors have no published source.

Vibration and environmental

7 modules

Ground vibration at nearby receptors, with airblast as a screening estimate (constants under review).

  • PPV and DIN 4150-3Peak particle velocity from scaled distance, against DIN 4150-3 receptor limits.
  • AirblastAirblast overpressure in pascals and decibels (screening; constants under review).
  • PPV site calibrationSite constants K and n fitted to measured vibration records.
  • Iso-PPV fieldPPV contours across the site and the distance at which predicted PPV falls below a chosen receptor limit.
  • USBM RI 8507The frequency-dependent PPV limit for a structure type.
  • Holmberg-PerssonNear-field PPV along the charge column and a damage class.
  • Waveform FFTDominant frequency and peak PPV from a recorded waveform.

Rock mass and explosives

6 modules

Rock-mass inputs for blasting, and explosive properties.

  • Hoek-BrownRock-mass strength parameters from the generalised criterion.
  • GSIGeological strength index from the chart tables.
  • Mohr-CoulombThe linear shear-strength envelope from cohesion and friction.
  • BlastabilityKuz-Ram rock factor A and the blastability index from rock-mass parameters.
  • ExplosivesExplosive properties, oxygen balance and heat of explosion.
  • CJ pressureChapman-Jouguet detonation pressure and borehole pressure.

Demolition and mining

2 modules

Controlled demolition and production economics.

  • Controlled demolitionCharges and delay phases for demolishing structural elements.
  • Mining economicsTonnage, strip ratio, powder factor per tonne and net present value.

HOW IT WORKS

From blast design to reviewable result.

  1. Step 1

    Choose the method

Pick a module from one of eight domain pages: fragmentation, blasting, environmental, vibration, rock mass, explosives, demolition and mining.

  2. Step 2

    Enter and check inputs

Enter burden, spacing, charge per delay, distance and the rest with explicit units and stated limits.

  3. Step 3

    Run linked methods

The workflow engine chains compatible modules, for example rock factor into Kuz-Ram into Rosin-Rammler, so one result feeds the next.

  4. Step 4

    Review the results

Check results against the inputs and limits, then export the run as PDF, DOCX, CSV or XLSX.

SCOPE AND LIMITS

Where mineraX stops.

Its development stage does not establish field validation, regulatory compliance or fitness for a specific site.
